Gaming PC vs Gaming Laptop: Which One Should You Buy?

Gaming PC's were always present since the evolution of PC gaming, but in the past couple of years we have seen a huge rise in gaming laptops. It is always a matter of debate in deciding which one is superior than other. In this article rather taking sides, we have practically compared both over number of factors which will help you to decide which one you should consider as your next gaming machine.
  • Performance
Whether be it high fps in ultra graphic setting games or be it faster processing during video editing, it is no doubt that a gaming pc can give a lot more performance than a gaming notebook. Reason is that in a laptop the components used are designed specifically to be compact and use less power which prevent them to be less powerful than its PC counterpart. One more reason is that in a PC there is enough room for the airflow which keeps components cool. You can also install additional liquid cooler which can help you increase overclocking if you are willing to spend the extra bucks.
Winner - PC
  • Upgradability
It is a piece of cake to install or remove components in PC (provided you must have some knowledge) rather than laptop, which requires you to unscrew too many screws. A PC allows you to choose variety of components from any manufacturer and replace/upgrade the particular component that you want, e.g. graphics card. If you have a laptop then sorry mate you can only replace/upgrade your ram or HDD/SSD, that too under size limitations.
Winner - PC
  • Portability
This is the feature which compels 90% of buyers to choose a laptop over a PC. If you need a device which you can carry with yourself, watch Netflix over to your friend's apartment, play games or basically do any task that you can do in a PC, then a gaming laptop is for you. If you have a PC then you're doomed, you cannot carry it, be it your workplace, your friend's apartment or anywhere.
Winner - Laptop

  • Cost
Since PC's tend to provide flexibility to choose components from different manufacturers, it costs less than a laptop. Laptops always come pre-assembled from the company and manufacturers have to create smaller components to fit into them, so they cost more.
Winner - PC
  • Usability
If you live in a city where power cuts are more common then buying a gaming laptop will be the best decision you will ever make. Laptops have batteries installed in them which instantly come into role as soon as there is a power cut. A good laptop with a healthy battery can last at least 45 minutes if you are playing a heavy AAA title with graphics tuned to max and if you are using it for casual purpose then it can last for around 4-5 hours (business laptops can last even for 12-13 hours). Yes you have UPS and inverters for PC's but they won't provide you much backup than a laptop's battery can.
Winner - Laptop

Verdict: Even though a gaming PC has more feature score than gaming laptop, portability is the characteristic than brings laptops on the same level of PC's. The verdict is that it depends. If you are a serious gamer and want high performance parts and accessories with no compromise in power, with one condition that you can't take your machine anywhere then a gaming PC is for you. On the other hand if you want to take your machine with you at your workplace, couch or anywhere along with heavy gaming, then buying a gaming laptop is a great choice.
